Urban Pole Walking, also known as Nordic Pole Walking, is a both a fun and fantastic way to stay in shape, especially as you age! Compared to regular walking, walkers use poles, similiar in concept to ski poles, with each stride. Pole walkers benefit as they actually use approximately 90% of their muscles as opposed to in normal walking. Muscles that benefit include: the chest, back muscles, triceps, biceps, shoulder, abdominals, spinal and other core muscles. Pole walking has also been estimated at burning about 46% more calories compared to walking without poles.
